Breastfeeding by coercion (Boston University Free Press)

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

Recently published in the Boston University Daily Free Press is a staff editorial regarding the Massachusetts Public Health Council measure barring hospital gift bags for new moms. Does restricting the excessive commercialism of birth “coerce women” to breastfeed? It does not seem to be the case if, according to the author, “no mother goes into a maternity ward without some idea of how she will care for her child”. This unnamed author seems a little confused about this point.
